Monica Hewryk
Monica’s ceramics practice focuses on two distinct bodies of work. Her first explores the dynamic potential of traditional ceramic vessel forms, where she brings movement to her sculptures through intricate cuts and deliberate planning. She aims to push the structural boundaries of each piece while maintaining a sense of grace and fluidity.
In her second body of work, Monica delves into personal narrative, reflecting on the passage of time and its emotional impact. By intentionally breaking and distorting elements of her pieces, she explores themes of imperfection, memory, and inevitable decay. Her work captures the tension between control and surrender, examining how surfaces, colors, and textures can reflect both fragility and resilience.
Monica is an accomplished ceramic artist and educator with a Master of Fine Arts in ceramics from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania (2021). She also holds a Bachelor of Arts in ceramics from Central Connecticut State University (2014). Monica teaches at several respected institutions, including Northwestern Connecticut Community College, Junkpot Studio, and the Farmington Valley Art Center, and serves as a University Assistant and ceramics technician at Central Connecticut State University. She maintains a private studio at home, where she continues to create and exhibit her work nationally.
