Taylor Sijan
Taylor Sijan is a full-time studio artist from Catawba Island, Ohio, known for her richly decorated, functional pottery. Taylor holds a BFA in 3-D Arts from Bowling Green State University (2016) and an MFA with a ceramics emphasis from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (2021).
In 2020, she was honored as one of Ceramics Monthly’s Emerging Artists, a recognition of her unique approach to ceramics and her impact in the field.
Taylor’s work is rooted in the belief that pottery should be both beautiful and functional. Her pieces are designed for active participation in daily life, yet each one is infused with layers of artistic expression.
She enjoys traveling to teach and has demonstrated her techniques at a variety of institutions, including Pocosin Arts School of Fine Craft, Peters Valley School of Craft, Wooten Clayworks, Gasworks NYC, Saratoga Clay Arts Center, Touchstone Center for Crafts, Sugar Maples Center for Creative Arts, Snow Farm, and Hudgens Center for Arts and Learning.
“My pottery is about balance—combining the functional with the expressive in a way that invites both use and admiration. My surface compositions are a combination of painted, slip-trailed, carved, and stamped motifs, blending contrasting techniques to create a tactile and visual experience.”
